Putting Things Back Together

We are starting to put things back together so we can open the doors next week. We won't be completely finished by then, so the work will still be going on.

Here, Tina is doing some cleaning at the Reception Desk.

And the Reception Desk is put back together with the new carpet under.

And the carpet is down and waitng for the Information Desk to be put back.

Crystal

Crystal Kehoe with her going-away presents on her next-to-last day at the Bettendorf Public Library, 30 August 2007. She will be missed!

Wednesday 8/29 Chris at window

Chris hands a book to a drive-through patron. Our window remains busy as patrons pick up new items and holds and return others.

Another Wednesday Post

Our rating/score for the new carpet!

Still areas "under construction".

What will tomorrow bring?

Wednesday in Tech

Purple Rain......

I thought we were closed!

I'm drowning........!

Welcome to my domain.

Progress Is Being Made!

Books are still moving in and out of the Library.
Remember, the drive-up window is open to pick up and return books.

The young adult fiction is in its new home.

This is the new home of the large print fiction and the music cds.
Isn't it clean and lovely?

The nonfiction and most of the fiction is done.
The new carpet colors are beautiful and rich.

Its Always Darkest Before the Dawn!

It may still look like a mess...

But staff is doing the best they can under the circumstances...

While the technical services department becomes even more inundated with work...

Many of the new DVDs arrive for our new opening day...

Carpeting Progress

We are now in the second week of being closed. Here's what happened last week:

This week we are starting in the new books and AV area. All the shelving has been moved and the carpet pulled up.

The bad news is that it is doubtful that the first floor will be completed by Sept. 4. We will open anyway, but some areas will not be accessible and some services may not be available. Watch this blog for updates and thank you for your patience.

Another day...

It is somewhat of a mess...

...and the noise and dust is all around.

But there is evidence of progress...

...while the never ending tasks of running the library continue.

And so it goes....

The carpet samples...and the colors are Aubergine, Fireworks and Chambord.

The Library continues to be in a bit of disarray.

But progress is being made.

Will this process ever end?

Tuesday...August 21

The carpet is starting to go down...

...And the fish have been temporarily relocated...

...While the staff keeps busy with the tasks at hand!

The First Day - Monday, August 20!

First order of business was moving all the computers! Thanks to our IT department from the city in completing this task! Of course, they will have to be moved again, one or two more times. Sorry IT department.

Then, of course, the books will have to be taken off the shelves in order to move the shelves. It looks like this system will work out pretty well.

And then there is painting, and moving stuff and ripping up carpet!

And we are waiting for the new carpet to arrive.

Which has arrived now!!

But we are still working and attending to other library tasks as well.

And the coffee shop Dewey's is open for business! So come on down and listen to the noise, peek through the gate, and enjoy the many refreshments and nourishments that Dewey's has to offer.

Before Pictures

Here are some pictures of the old carpet at the library. Ten years of use has taken its toll.
