National Library Week 2016: Libraries Transform
Celebrate National Library Week from April 10 – 16! Let the world know how libraries have transformed your life!
What are libraries all about? Do they provide the public with access to information and ideas? Certainly! Are libraries places of quiet study? Yes, but they are also places to come together and meet with others in your community. Do libraries provide creative programs for people to collaborate with others and to try new technologies or fun DIY projects? Absolutely!
The Bettendorf Public Library offers a wide variety of print and digital resources, innovative programming activities for all ages, free internet and computer use, and comfortable spaces to meet, study, or just relax in front of the fireplace or at Dewey’s Café. And yes, we even have a 3-D printer and can assist patrons in designing their own 3-D printing projects!
Libraries do transform their communities! See the list below to find the wide assortment of activities and programs we have planned for your enjoyment during National Library Week.
Creation Studio Drop-In

Wednesday, April 13: Chromatography butterflies
Thursday, April 14: Suncatcher butterflies
Friday, April 15: Melted crayon butterflies
Saturday, April 16: Quilling butterflies
Bookfaces and Shelfies
Bookfaces are photos where you strategically line up your face or another body part with a book cover that features the same body part, creating an optical illusion where your body is an extension of the cover art.
There will be a display of books in the Library during April that have covers that lend themselves to a Bookface. Choose your book, take your photo and tag us on Twitter and Facebook #BPLBookface!
Can’t find a book cover that appeals to you? How about a shelfie? Let us know how libraries have transformed your life by showing us what you read! Line up your favorites and tag us when you post the pic #BPLShelfie!
