Funds are raised through an annual membership drive, two Book Fairs each year, collection of used books and magazines for re-sale, owning
and operating a copier for Library patrons, and an annual Holiday Bazaar.
Meetings are held monthly at the Library, September through June, on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:15 p.m.
For more information about volunteering with the Friends, contact the Bettendorf Public Library Volunteer Coordinator. For questions about the book fairs or bazaar, contact the Administrative Assistant.
Friends memberships can be purchased at the Book Fairs, or at the Service Desk at the Library. The application can be also downloaded for printing here and mailed to the Library at 2950 Learning Campus Dr, Bettendorf, IA 52722. Individual memberships are $5 and a family membership is $10.
The Spring Book Fair in April netted over $9,500 making it one of the top two sales. As always, the Friends are grateful to all of the volunteers working together to help make the Book Fair a success, and appreciate their hard work getting the sale in order. None of these efforts would be possible if not for the generosity of the community donating the materials to be sold and to those who attend the book fairs to purchase the items offered.
The Friends membership drive continues. Membership runs calendar year, so if you join now you can still attend the member preview sale for the Fall Book Fair on Friday, October 6. Joining the Friends is an affordable way to support the Library. An individual membership is $5 per year and a family membership is $10. There are additional categories of Supporting Membership, $25 - $49 and Patron Membership, $50 and up. The Friends utilize the profits from membership, book fairs, magazine sales, and the holiday bazaar to provide materials and programming for the Library. If you would like more information about joining the Friends, call 344-4177.
Do you have a lot of books or magazines that you no longer have room to house, but do not want to throw away? One solution: donate the items to the Friends. The ongoing magazine sale is always in need of gently used magazines and the Friends collect, sort, and box books for the book fairs all year long. All book and magazine donations may be deposited any of the Library’s open hours in the Friends area near the entrance to Dewey's Café.
The Friends June meeting is Tuesday, June 6 at 7 p.m. at the Library. The Friends do not meet in July and August and begin meeting again on Tuesday, September 5.
