Bettendorf Public Library

Policies

Unattended Children

In order to provide for the general welfare of all persons using the Bettendorf Public Library and to provide for the general safety of children using the Library, the Board has established the following:

  1. Children ages five and younger must be accompanied by an adult at all times. This means they remain with the child during the entire library visit. Exceptions to this policy occur only when programming requires children to attend on their own. At these times, children should be brought to the room prior to the program and met outside at its conclusion.

  2. Children ages six through nine may attend programs independently but should be met at the conclusion of the program inside the Library. No child under the age of nine may be left in the Library by themselves.

  3. Library staff members are not responsible for children in any area of the Library at any time.

  4. A written copy of the policy will be given to individuals who do not observe this policy as a reinforcement of the importance of following the rules for their own child's safety.
