You Are Here: Live Action Role Play
Wednesday, June 29th, Wednesday, July 13th, Wednesday, July 27th, 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., Junior League Program Room
You may be here but what if you want to create another you? Luckily we are going to explore live action role play. A role playing game is where you take on the role of a character you create. The character could be an elf if you are playing a fantasy game, or a Civil War general if it’s a historical game. In live action role play you physically act out your character with other players. Imagine a field of mad orcs fighting elves, or different clans of knights fighting one another.
In order to better understand LARP we will investigate it over three sessions:
Week 1:
This week we will view online videos introducing LARP, and how they create homemade Nerf type weapons. We will also create family crests and a history of our Houses (our families).
Week 2:
Our second session will be devoted to our weapon and shield creation. We won’t be following traditional LARP weapon construction. However we will make simple items from cardboard, glue, foam, and duct tape.
Week 3:
We will finally have a chance to try out our new found larping skills. We will form two teams and have a mock battle of capture the flag. The battle will be strictly “touch football” rules, so light taps of swords only. If individuals engage in full contact they will be asked to leave the program. If such behavior continues the program may end early. Each team member will get 5 health points, the sixth hit eliminates you from the battle. The battle will end when a flag is captured or everyone is eliminated.
Registration is required. Registration is due by Monday, June 27th, 2011 at 9:00 pm.
You can register by visiting our website (www.bettendorflibrary.com) or by filling out the registration form located in the Quad Please return the form to the Young Adult Librarian in Youth Services. Each session builds on the previous one so please commit to all three sessions.
Fun is always happeneing at your library!
