Elixir by Hilary Duff
5 Stars

When I read this book I couldn’t put it down. By the very first chapter I was hooked. All of the chapters were very detailed and descriptive. Elixir was about a girl named Clea Raymond and she is a photojournalist and she travels around the world most of the time. But, when Clea’s dad disappears she starts to realise that every picture she takes there is this guy in it and it’s the same guy in every one. when Clea has the chance to go take photos in another place she takes her friend with her. While Clea and her friend are at a party a crowd goes in between her friend and her they lose each other for enough time for her to realise that the guy in her photos was some what in front of her. Later on, they go through all of this stuff that is complicated and she needs to find out why or how he was in all of her pictures. I would refer this book to anyone who likes romance. This book will change your life.

A Smart Girl’s Guide to Starting Middle School by Julie Williams

4 Stars

In A Smart Girl’s Guide to Starting Middle School by Julie Williams, I learned very useful tips that will help me out a lot when I begin Jr. high next year. This book contained tons of helpful hints, some of which I would like to share with you.

First, I learned about how to get ready faster in the morning. If I plan ahead the night before, then getting ready in the morning will be a breeze. I should have everything I will need at school the next day already packed, have my clothes laid out, and all my permission slips signed.

Another thing that I learned was that I need to take opportunities (such as Back to School Night) and walk through my schedule when I can so that I probably won’t be late for my classes. I also need to keep my locker very organized so that I won’t have to hunt for textbooks, homework, etc.

In this book, I also learned about making good impressions on my new teachers, handling more homework, making new friends, and after school activities. As you can see, this guide will help me out a lot over the next few years of school and beyond.

I did enjoy this book. I was very nervous for Jr. high and now I know what to expect. I would recommend it to any other girl going to middle school/ Jr. high for the first time.

Season of Secrets by Sally Nicholls

4 Stars

In Season of Secrets, Molly Brooke and her older sister, Hannah, live with their grandparents. Their mother has passed away and their father needs time to find a good job and get things straight.

Not far from her grandma’s house, Molly has found a man who was hurt badly by a hunt. She learns that he thrives in summer because he is the god of summer. And the man that hunted him was the Holly King, the supernatural being that thrives in winter. Winter is, in fact, drawing near and Molly’s man is growing weaker by the minute. She visits him often in an old abandoned barn until winter arrives and he disappears.

Meanwhile, Molly and Hannah’s father visits them and Hannah is having a hard time coping with all that has happened lately. She disobeys her grandparents and father a lot. At school, Molly and Hannah meet new friends. In the spring, Molly is invited to Emily’s birthday party. Emily was such a shy girl but she turns out to be a very fun person. Also, spring is when Molly’s man comes back.

It is the man’s turn to hunt and defeat the Holly King so that summer may come. He takes Molly along and they soon are victorious. Summer comes and brings Molly’s birthday. She has her family there (including her dad) along with Emily and another friend from school named Alexander. They play a game of tag. During the game, Molly meets with her man one last time. He is in the woods and she, the god, and all the trees sway and dance. Molly returns to the game.
So, in the end, Molly’s father finds a job and will soon be taking them back to their home with him. The girls are happy to be with their dad, but I think they will also miss their grandparents because they stayed there for so long.

How To Steal A Dog by Barbara O’Connor

4 Stars

I read a book called How To Steal A Dog by Barbara O’Connor. The book is realistic fiction. It is about a girl named Georgina who is very poor and her family is forced to leave their apartment and live in a car. The car is the main setting. One day when the family is looking for money, Georgina sees a lost and found reward poster for a dog. That is when she gets an idea. All she figures out she has to do is steal a dog and wait for a reward poster, the claim that she found the dog. She makes up a plan. She gets her friend/sidekick name Toby and tries to steal a dog. One day when the dog’s owners are not at home, Georgina and Toby find the dog in the backyard fence and the carefully hook it off the leash and get it to a shelter. They keep the dog in the shelter until the owners put up a lost and found reward poster to return the dog. Soon Georgina and Toby are getting very excited when the reward posters come up. They get ready to return the dog. What will happen next though? Read the book to find out.

Cover for Wish You Were DeadWish You Were Dead by Todd Strasser

4 Stars

I read a book called Wish You Were Dead. It is realistic fiction and a mystery of suspense. There is this one girl named Madison who isn’t treated very nicely and starts blogging. There are three popular people in her class that she doesn’t like and wishes they were dead. One day, all three of them suddenly disappear just like that. At first, Madison was kind of happy that they were gone. She thought she had some real magic powers and was excited. But soon, she started to regret it and wanted them to come back like the rest of the school. Soon it even became a city affair. then something really peculiar happened. Madison kept getting comments on her blog from a strange guy named iAmNeMeSiS who she didn’t know. Throughout this bad crisis, Madison is wondering who iAmNeMeSiS is and if he had anything to do with the disappearing of those three people. Soon something else happened. Someone else in her class actually fainted. The full school started to panic. Madison thought that the iAmNeMeSiS guy was up to all of this. Soon iAmNeMeSiS sent Madison a message saying that all of her friends would disappear which was really awkward. Who is iAmNeMeSiS and what is he up to? Read the book to find out.
