Due to the ever-changing landscape of the COVID-19 pandemic, these guidelines are subject to changes based on transmission levels within the Quad-City region, any new recommendations made by health officials, as well as any mandates/proclamations made by city, state, or federal government.

Mask Policy

During periods of SUBSTANTIAL or HIGH transmission rates of COVID-19, the Bettendorf Public Library will request the following for Library visitors and staff:

Non-Vaccinated: Masks/face coverings are REQUIRED at all times while inside the Library facility
Vaccinated: Masks/face coverings are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED
Library Staff: all staff members are required to wear masks or face coverings while working in public areas of the facility or in close proximity of co-workers, regardless of vaccination status.
Complimentary masks are available at all service desks, if needed. Refusal to comply with this policy will result in temporary or permanent expulsion from the premises.

Library Programs

Programming staff may impose capacity limits on any in-person programs, for the safety of attendees, staff, and any guests facilitating library-sponsored events. Online programs for all ages will continue to be offered to the public who cannot visit the facility in person.

Staffing & Levels of Service

In the event that multiple staff members are unable to report to work, Library administration will determine what levels of service might be temporarily scaled back. Update 11/17/2020

City of Bettendorf Learning Campus Face Covering Statement

Effective November 17, 2020, the use of face coverings will be required at city facilities located at the Bettendorf Learning Campus for all independent visitors, including adults, teens, and children age 2 yrs. and older, as recommended by the CDC* and local health authorities. Face coverings should cover the nose and mouth, and are available to the public upon request.

Library users who have concerns with wearing face coverings may wish to utilize digital library resources via the library website and/or contactless curbside pickup, as an enhanced courtesy service. Please contact library staff for details.

The CDC recommendation is as follows:
Face coverings act as a simple barrier to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the air and onto other people when the person wearing the cloth face covering coughs, sneezes, talks, or raises their voice. This is called source control. This recommendation is based on what we know about the role respiratory droplets play in the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19. Clinical and laboratory studies show cloth face coverings reduce the spray of droplets when worn over the nose and mouth. COVID-19 spreads mainly among people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet), so the use of cloth face coverings is particularly important in settings where people are close to each other or where social distancing is difficult to maintain.

*Exceptions: “Cloth face coverings should NOT be worn by children under the age of 2 or anyone who has trouble breathing, is unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.” CDC @ https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/preventgetting-sick/cloth-face-cover-guidance.html

coverings should cover the nose and mouth, and are available to the public upon request.

Library users who have concerns with wearing face coverings may wish to utilize digital library
resources via the library website and/or contactless curbside pickup, as an enhanced courtesy

The CDC recommendation is as follows:
Face coverings act as a simple barrier to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the
air and onto other people when the person wearing the cloth face covering coughs, sneezes,
talks, or raises their voice. This is called source control. This recommendation is based on what
we know about the role respiratory droplets play in the spread of the virus that causes COVID-
19. Clinical and laboratory studies show cloth face coverings reduce the spray of droplets when
worn over the nose and mouth. COVID-19 spreads mainly among people who are in close
contact with one another (within about 6 feet), so the use of cloth face coverings is particularly
important in settings where people are close to each other or where social distancing is difficult
to maintain.

*Exceptions: “Cloth face coverings should NOT be worn by children under the age of 2 or
anyone who has trouble breathing, is unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove
the mask without assistance.” CDC @ https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/preventgetting-
sick/cloth-face-cover-guidance.html
