Adult Reading Challenge
Welcome to the adult summer reading challenge! On this page, you will find more information on the activity options for the challenge. To complete the challenge, finish four of the activities below. "Read or Listen to a Book" may be completed up to four times. Once finished, return your completed log to the library to pick up your prize! You can also track your reading and submit your prize tickets online with Beanstack.
Summer Reading Challenge Activities
Read or Listen to a Book
Choose your prefered format: physical book, ebook, or audiobook. Ebooks and digital audiobooks are available through the library on the Libby app, which is available for download on all devices. You can also view and borrow titles on a web browser. Additional digital graphic novels and manga can be found on Comics Plus. Need recommendations? Ask library staff or explore Novelist Plus to find new books based on appeal factors, theme, or genre, or find read-alikes based on a favorite book or author.
Attend a BPL Summer Concert
Concerts are held June 4 to August 13 in Faye's Field and start at 6:30 p.m. each Thursday in the summer. View the full schedule and concert details.
Plant Something from the Seed Exchange
The Bettendorf Public Library is proud to offer free access to vegetable, herb, and flower seeds, all of which are open-pollinated and non-GMO. Located within the Creation Corner on the first floor, the Seed Exchange is open and accessible during library hours. Take up to three packets per month—no checkout required!
Attend a Library Event
The library connects with our community by offering a diverse range of free programming and events for all ages. Dive into an art project with Botanical Gel Plate Printing; learn about Tapestry Farms, a nonprofit urban farm system in the Quad Cities; join our Hamilton sing-along; play a round of mini golf; and much more! Check out all the adult events occuring during the course of the summer reading challenge.
Make Something in the Creation Studio
The Creation Studio is a vibrant hub designed to fuel your passion, curiosity, and creativity. As the Bettendorf Public Library’s makerspace, it offers community access to new and emerging technologies that inspire interest in creativity, design, and STEAM activities. Make use of the sewing machines, the Cricut or Silhouette cutters, the laser engraving, or one of our many other tools.
Borrow from the Library of Things
The Bettendorf Public Library has a variety of kits available for checkout, including board games, outdoor equipment, craft tools, and book discussion boxes. Explore the Library of Things.
Attend a Bettendorf Parks and Recreation Program

Donate Gently Used Books or Magazines to the Friends of the Library
Donations of gently used books and magazines are sold by the Friends of the Bettendorf Public Library, letting them support a variety of library programs, including summer reading! Learn more about donating or more about the Friends.
Visit a Bettendorf Park

Challenge Completion Prizes
Each person who finishes the adult reading challenge by completing at least four activities will receive their choice of a $2 voucher to spend in the Friends of the Bettendorf Public Library bookshop OR a pass to play one round at Bettendorf's The Forge Putting Course. In addition, earn up to 12 tickets to enter into the challenge prize drawings. Each completed activity earns you one ticket. You choose where to direct your tickets.
