Friendly discussion of contemporary (and, occasionally, classic) fiction and nonfiction.

During June, July, and August, the Contemporary Books Discussion Group will discuss Morgan Talty's critically acclaimed short story collection, Night of the Living Rez. In twelve interconnected stories set among a Native community in Maine, Talty explores modern Penobscot life.

For the July meeting, we will read and discuss the collection's fifth through eighth stories:

  • "In a Field of Stray Caterpillars"
  • "The Blessing Tobacco"
  • "Safe Harbor"
  • "Smokes Last"

Books are available on a first-come basis at the Information Desk. You may also call the Library at 563-344-4179 to have a book signed out to you and placed on the Holds shelf. Remote attendance is possible; please register in order to have the login information sent to you.

This program is funded by the Friends of the Bettendorf Public Library.
